Kura no Yado, a Renovated Stone Storehouse in Kanaya

Kanaya, in the city of Futtsu — a small port town spread at the foot of Mt. Nokogiri. Boshu stone quarried here was once shipped from this town to Edo. The storehouse that kept that stone is now quietly coming back to life as an inn for one group a day.

A Building Made of Stone

Every wall of the building is Boshu stone, over a hundred years old. Warm in winter, cool in summer. "Locals say the stone breathes," says the owner, Mr. Yoshida.

The interior is kept minimal: the stone walls left as they are, with only the most essential furniture and lighting.

On some evenings, the silhouette of Mt. Fuji appears beyond the Miura Peninsula on the opposite shore.

One Group a Day, All to Yourselves

Kura no Yado takes just one group a day, up to four guests.

Climb Mt. Nokogiri, browse the morning market at Kanaya Port, or take the ferry across to the Miura Peninsula. One night may not be enough.
